Review:
I have been their loyal customer for about three years already. I own a garage, and from experience, they have only denied one claim, as one turbo audi had its oil pump screen clogged with sludge, but the client couldn’t provide oil change receipts. The insurance company informed me that had they been able to produce these, their claim would have come through. For the part, they didn’t want to pay the Saturn dealer in Qwinnett County GA prices since they were too expensive. I called Saturn in Greenville S.C., which quoted us the same thing. It was Saturn in Conyers which had the rates Mercury estimated, so they’d approved the claim. I was impressed because they were able to give me a proper estimate, to better avoid high-priced dealers. In the past, they have always approved new dealer parts, provided that the part number and price matches, and as long as I give at least one year warranty for my repairs. I usually do not enjoy dealing with insurance agents, but I’ve had no problem with this company, as they’ve always been transparent with me.

I’m bothered about how they first tell you they would give you a good rate, and find a blemish on your record so they could charge more. They lowered it back when I complained. There were always unpleasant letters warning of rate increase. I definitely could not endorse them to anyone I know.

Review:
I would not recommend Mercury Insurance. I liked my agent, but not the company. They would just raise their rates without any warning, and you can’t even ask anyone why, because there’s no easily accessible phone number to call. Very bad experience with them.

I am still with Mercury, but I’m looking for a better company. I tried calling them to find out my policy’s expiration, and they’re closed. I find out that their hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Very difficult to get ahold of. I tried again at 8:05am, and I’m put through the answering machine, so I could leave a message. I’m so irritated. They don’t have a caller queue like other normal companies.

While Mercury Insurance has lower prices, they also have very bad customer service. They don’t have a customer service center like other companies do. I bought my car on a weekend, and I wasn’t able to get it insured until the next business day, because they don’t answer on weekends. In effect, I couldn’t use my new car until the business day. They’re very sadly lacking in the customer service department. As I result, I transferred to AAA, which does have customer service available on weekends.
