Motorcycle Insurance
Types of motorcycle Insurance premiums
Motorcycle insurance premiums depend on a variety of factors. These factors will determine if the vehicle is more likely to be involved in an accident and therefore cost the insurance company money. The more expensive it is for the insurance company to insure a driver, the higher that driver’s premium rates will be. The following list includes the most common consideration for insurance premium calculations:
Age
as a general rule, the older the driver is, the lower the insurance premium will be. A teenager with no driving record and less experience will have the highest insurance premium. After the age of 25, premiums generally fall. As a driver becomes older, more experience, and has a good driving record, his or her premium will usually fall to reflect the lower probability that driver will be involved in an accident. Senior drivers tend to drive less, be less on the road, and therefore have a lower chance to be involved in an accident; that results in further lower premiums.
Gender
male drivers tend to be more aggressive in their driving than female drivers are. In addition, male drivers tend to spend more time on the road than female drivers do. As a result, everything else being equal, male drivers pay higher insurance premium while female drivers pay lower insurance premiums.
Marital status
married drivers are usually charge lower insurance premiums than unmarried drivers. This is due to their statistically lower accident rate.
Vehicle classification
there are different types of vehicles classes: economy class, midsize sedan, minivans, pickup trucks, sports motorcycles, utility vehicles and more. As a general rule; luxury motorcycles, midsize sedans, and compact motorcycles have the lowest insurance premiums, while sports motorcycles, muscle motorcycles, and utility vehicles have the highest insurance premiums.
Previous driving record
a driver with little or no driving convictions and no accidents will benefit from a lower insurance premium. This is due to the lower probability, according to a ‘cleaner’ driving record, that the driver will be involved in an accident.
Driving distance
some insurance companies ask for, or estimate the driving distance. The farther a motorcycle is expected to drive, the more time it is on the road, the higher the probability of an accident, the higher the insurance premium will be. Similarly, if a driver is expected to drive little, the insurance premium will be lower as well.
